Thank God for the LCA: Keeping your marriage strong and safe from the gays!
A post by Neil Hart on homosexuality, LGBT, lesbian and gay stuff and the Lutheran Church of Australia.
US President Obama has voiced his support for gay marriage. As expected it has put the cat among the conservative news pigeons. Enjoy :)
BTW. There is an M rating on this one. Adult content.
and then there is this…

I always did feel sorry for the woman that had to marry her rapist…..is this just me?
Love the cartoon :)
no…i think she must have felt pretty bad about it too…. :(
pretty bad would be an understatement i think neil.
Yup! Cant argue with that. It is reported that a traditional Hebrew man’s prayer began…”I thank you Lord that you have not made me a gentile nor a woman” Maybe we can begin to see why. Religion sucks sometimes. :-/
Just a note on word usage. The LGBT community is now speaking out against the term “gay marriage”. (They don’t go gay shopping in their gay car and gay park it at the store.) The rationale is that theirs is just marriage, like any other marriage. The preferred term now, for the moment at least, is “marriage equality”, because that’s what they are asking for – simply being treated as equal to any other couple who wish to make a lifetime commitment to each other. I really see their point, and the words we use are important. So from now on, I’m in favour of marriage equality. I’ll leave the term “gay marriage” to those who wish to keep LGBT people in a separate class in our society.
This may smack of excessive political correctness, but never fear. I’m also in reclaiming the word gay. It means happy. Donn we now our gay apparel and all that. I’m extremely gay today. Very happy that the world seems to be moving in a direction I like.
Right with you on correct language. I make mistakes sometimes but this time it was deliberate. Like “the Gays” and “gaymageddon”, i was keeping with the Colbert persona. But i will make sure i am careful in future.
I’m ok with reclaiming the word “gay” but…surely…we can leave the word “donn” in the dim distant past where it belongs.
Colbert is awesome!! Excellent selection!!
It’s the weekend, so I’d better go find some technoclub somewhere with a dark dingy basement… but I’ll be coming home to my house alone.
Crossing North Carolina off my list of possible destinations to live.
Jesus loves me, this I know!
haveagoodweekend M. Oh. that reminds me. There used to be an aeroguard ad with the slogan…Didjahavagoodweekend? I remember seeing one billboard that was slightly amended to read…didjahavagoodwee ? Still makes me smile. Small things….small minds…. :)
btw..I havent been to a technoclub but I thought they were ALL dark dingy basements?
http://wp.me/pGQxY-iS Please feel free to pass on the link to my essay on traditional marriage and a free society. A Lutheran view.
Interesting stuff David. thanks for this thought provoking piece. I think people would be surprised to find out how radically different marriage arangements/ co-habitations/ bearing and raising children etc have looked over the centuries in different parts of the world. I remember at the seminary doing an elective on Marriage in reformation perspective. Things at the time of Luther were certainly nothing like 21st century America or Australia.
I also remember sitting in a courtroom some years back with a 17 yo woman and an 18 yo man who were expecting a child..waiting to see if the court would allow this underaged couple to get married. Yes..Caesar does appear to be a little too involved in all this.
Hey… I wonder…. Do you think the constant smell of sea air in the nostrils frees up your brain to think a little differently?
Hi David, found it interesting to hear the origins of the marriage license.
One point in your essay troubles me – You say: “In a truly free, non-coercive society, people can do as they please as long as they are not aggressing against others or their property.”
The issue of traditional marriage and marriage equality is more than just a request for the right to marry. I believe gay people are asking to be accepted as equals – not only in marriage. The argument for traditional marriage is (and I am not speaking for u personally) is very aggressive – it says that homosexuality is a sin, homosexual relationships are wrong etc etc and as such they promote an attitude in society that is harmful.
So the real question for me is not TM or ME – I think the church is going against scripture in an attempt to maintain a “traditional” version of marriage – and this would not be good.
PS Freedom to do what you want is not really freedom.
Hi again peoples, I write this mainly to Eugene in the hope he is still following comments – Eugene says ”I find myself in the tension that exists between Jesus’ teaching on marriage – ‘… at the beginning of creation God “made them male and female…..”
And Trevor Ruthenburg said “I almost ache at times and understand his pain”
Can I suggest that this tension and this ache are pointing to something?
I can understand why the church has taken the position on homosexuality that it has….based on the information from the 60/70’s which suggested homosexuals were perverts and made a decision to be gay and promiscuous. This information was based on fear and ignorance – we now know that sexuality is far more complex than we had imagined and we know that people are born gay. There is a group of “Christians” who still want to hang onto and promote the “pervert” aspect – isn’t it time we looked at the facts????
There is no tension and ache in acknowledging the truth.
“If your black or if your white or if your in between God loves you.” (know the song?)
We are asking gay people to change their colour and yes that would create tension and ache.
PS. Just a fleeting thought- at the beginning of creation God created them…. what colour?
Ive seen ALL the pictures of Adam amd Eve.
They were white. I’m pretty sure that I have never seen a picture of a black Adam and eve. That pretty conclusive proof I think. And the snake is always a python which. i believe, only lives in the tropics. Just had a look at the map of the world and saw the tropics goes through central africa, indonesia and north part of south america. HMMM no white people there… I was about to give up when i decided to have a closer look at south america and I saw “French Guiana”. “French = White” I dont want everyone to get too excited but…I think I may have found the locality of the Garden of Eden. I cant remember ever hearing about this “French Guiana” before. I dont think that the secrecy is an accident. I think the CIA are involved. Thats pretty strong evidence people. Think about it. If there WERE a Garden of Eden somewhere, and the CIA heard about it, they would immediately clamp down on information. The fact that we don’t hear anything about “French Guiana” being the Garden of Eden is almost complete confirmation that it actually IS!
